Roswell, New Mexico

September 12th I made it to Roswell, it was about two and half hours south of Route 66.  Roswell was not what I expected, I thought there would be a decent amount of alien themed restaurants, hotels, stores, and just all around weirdness.  It turned out it was a modern town with chain restaurants and hotels, and only two blocks of alienness.  There was a UFO museum and the rest were souvenir shops.

Unknown symbols

The UFO museum was pretty cool, it had a bunch of information about the alien crash, how it was covered up, the people involved, stories of abductions, pictures, the movie Roswell memorabilia, and The Palenque Astronaut showing 'supposed' alien contact in 400-500AD.

Document stating UFOs were spotted

I did learn that the military said that the unknown objects flying above were not UFOs, but weather balloons and the beings seen falling from the objects were not aliens, but dummies thrown out of the balloons by the Air Force (believe what you want).

HAROLD-serial no. 226

The Palenque Astronaut is a carving from a lid to a tomb belonging to the temples of the Mayans.  "This particular carving portrays an astronaut sitting at the controls of his space ship.  In addition, a well-preserved white man was found in the tomb."  The question still exists as to whether the remains in the tomb are of an ancient astronaut, or in other words, an extraterrestrial.

When I got back up to Route 66 I realized that I'd missed four corners, which is the only place in the country where four states touch; Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah, so I made the five hour trip back to see it.  It wasn't much but it was completely worth it.  I talked to man there and he told me he came here as a kid and they only had a post with a sign nailed to get.  There are chairs and souvenirs shops and now they call it a monument and charge $5.
