Finally started Route 66 September 3. I picked up the book EZ66 Guide by Jerry McClanahan which is best book if you're going to be travelling The Mother Road (as the pros call it) on the Pier in Santa Monica.

I got a little turned around in Beverly Hills and ended up completely off the route, caught back up with it in Pasadena, but from there it's been extremely easy to follow through the different cities.

Upland, CA

Rancho Cucamonga, CA
For real though if you decide to do route 66 get this book. It has step by step directions, so you don't get lost, maps, detours, Giant Alerts, gift shop alerts, and attractions to see along the way.

Helendale, CA
Most of my drive has been desert with mountains way in the background. Not a lot to see nature wise, but a lot of cool and interesting sites. It's always really exciting when you drive for 40 minutes and then come upon a little piece of history. Most of these businesses used to be booming, but when I-40 was built most went out of business. In recent history some have been bought and restored to there past glory and some are are still dilapidated and abandoned.
